Tea Bags For Eyes
Last week one morning, I woke up with a nasty pain in the outer corner of my right eye. I brushed it off, thinking I might have slept sideways with my hand under my face for too long, as I am prone to do, but when I got to the mirror, I noticed that my top eyelid was swollen and red.
Oh no! I thought. What if it is a chalazion again? (Ive had one before, and it took more than six months for it to go away!) But this was painful and red, the chalazion had just been an annoying (at first slightly itchy, later not so much|) nuisance. Then I recalled what my mom had done for us whenever we had eye complaints when we were younger - pressed almost-hot tea bags against our eyes.
A few hot tea compresses later (well not a few, more like, I had used at least 8 tea bags by then) and at first the pain went away, then the swelling, then it was gone THANK GOD!! Anyway, later on, after a bout of googling, I learned that you can use this to prevent/heal puffy eyes from a lack of sleep or whatever. Apparently, the caffiene also reduced dark circles. I cant attest to anything except that it did heal my swollen eye (usually a result of infection (bacterial or viral) so tea bags it is folks!
Bring some water to boil. In a heat proof bowl (preferably something you want use again, or if you will, please dont re-dip or put your used tea bag back in, thats just gross!) put two tea bags that you just made tea with into the bowl (instead of immediately throwing them out! Don''t use new tea bags if you can help it, try to make some tea as you regularly would and after steeping, take out the used tea bags and put them in the bowl...Dont waste!) and pour the boiling water over it. you can squeeze some lemon juice into this - I did the first time. Wait until you can tolerate the heat - dont use it too hot you will burn your skin, and there is no point using it when it is lukewarm, so make sure it is just right - hot enough but not scalding. Then, push gently onto the desired area.Press gently, but not too hard! You dont want to be bruising yourself now do you?! Thats it, gently she goes.
Enjoy and Peace!
